I am looking for information on the origin of the whitehill family in County Dublin in the 1700's.I am a descendant of William Whitehill, born in 1794 in Dublin and transported to Syndey, Australia in 1826.Searches of the Mormon records from the Parish of St Peter and St kevins (now st peters) and from other parishes yield a smattering of Whitehills from 1675 to 1802, however there is no clear link to my ancestor nor their origin from Scotland or England. William was recorded as a presbyterian which may indicate Scotland as a source for the family.
I have corresponded with a Sam Whitehill of texas who put me on this trail. He, and a John Freehafer are descendants of John and James Whitehill who came from Co. Donegal in the early 1700s to Pennsylvania. This John and James were of Scottish ancestry. It is unlikely however that this line is related to the Dublin line of Whitehills.
If any one can shine light on the orgin and extent of these Dublin Whitehills it would be great.
