Statement from Jefferson Manly Falkner Soldiers Home, Mountain Creek, AL, January 25, 1928:We direct that Mrs. J. H. Whitehurst, 77, be admitted to the Home as she is a refined woman and was wife of a preacher instead of sending he to the County Almshouse.She has been receiving his pension since 1908.Signed by Judge of Probate.She has no children at all or near relatives.Widow of James T. Whitehurst who was discharged at Egypt Station, MS under Col Moreland and was in Battle of Manassas Gap.He was captured but got away.Notify for Mrs. Whitehurst E. R. Brown, Tuscaloosa, AL. June 6, 1932, Mrs. Whitehurst left or was discharged from Home. Her pension was reinstated to her.She married James Whitehurst November 30, 1869 (should be 1876) near Ripley, Tippah, MS.She was b. April 3, 1850 at Ripley.Moved to AL 1888.Lived in 2 plaes her life.Is now living with J. T. Hendrix, Russelville, Franklin Co, AL.PENSION #17686.James died October 12, 1902, enlisted in CSA at Iuka, MS.Her father was Jesse Brown who died April 18, 1896, Ripley, MS.A doctor released her from the Home.She will live in Russelville, AL in Leslie Hendrix's home.
