Logan Monroe Whitener was the son of Leander and Sarah Poovey Whitener. He md. second wife, Frances Ellen Scates, daughter of James P. and Nancy Muse Scates. I know that Logan and Frances were still living around 1930, when the Scates brothers and some of Logan's children from his first wife went to see them on a flat bed truck. This info was from one of Logan's granddaughters whose father was one of the group who went. This granddaughter was young, but she recalled them going, and she said it was around 1930 give or take a year. The story from the Scates side was that Fannie was dying of cancer, and her brothers wanted to see her before she died. Frances (called Fannie) was the sister of my grandfather, Ellis Henry Scates. Logan Whitner left his first wife and ran away with Fannie sometime prior to 1900. It caused quite a scandel around Waynesville, NC where they lived. Tracy Whitener, grandson of Adolphus Whitener, recalled hearing the talk, but said it was a very hush hush subject. Adolphus Whitener was the brother to Logan Monroe Whitener. Have you been able to get a death cert. on Logan and Fannie?
