The 1850 Lee Co, GA census shows the following: household 548 Lucinda Tate, 59 F, no occupation, $50 value real estate, GA Clara E., 23 F, GA (b. ca 1827) Laura S., 21 F, GA (b. ca 1829) Nancy, 19 F, GA (b. ca 1831) Sophie W., 9 F, GA (b. ca 1841) T. J., 2 M, GA (b. ca 1848)
Clara E. married Abram C. Whitman in Harris Co, GA, 1850 Laura S. was Manthy who married William M. Petty about 1854, probably Lee Co, GA Nancy married Jared Irwin III about 1853, probably Lee Co, GA Sophia married John Wesley Sears, 1862 Terrell Co, GA James Taylor married Frances Rebecca McNeil, 1869 Terrell Co
Two clues - James Taylor Tate’s daughter remembers the family talking about “being as mean as old Enos Tate.” Two, Clara was living in Lee county in 1850, but went to Harris county to marry Abram C. Whitman. Abram’s grandmother was Nancy Tait Colson, wife of Abraham Colson. The Colson family used the name Sophia. What are the connections between these people? Which Tate family in Georgia? They were poor by 1850 while the other Tate families seemed more wealthy. HELP!
