Thanks Elvin. My line goes through AL and SC. Here is the list:
Hollis Whitman - Father Buford E Whitman - Grand James F Whitman - Ggrand Jefferson D Whitman - GGgrand Edward S Whitman - GGGgrand Christopher Whitman - GGGGgrand John Adam Whitman - GGGGGgrand Chrisopher S Whitman - GGGGGGgrand Matthew M Weidman - GGGGGGGgrand (from Germany) Hans M M Weidman - GGGGGGGGgrand Hans Peter Weidman - GGGGGGGGGgrand Hans Weidman - GGGGGGGGGGgrand
Of course, the further back you get, the more guess work was involved. I am most interested in the following questions:
1. Why did Christopher (or Matthew, maybe) change his family's last name to Whitman when they arrive in America? (I think I have found other reports of his brothers or sisters that kept the original name) 2. Edward S Whitman was reported to have died in the Civil War in Tupelo, MS of "extreme cold chills". He was listed as E S Whitney. I am interested to learn more about him.
I would love to find pictures of any of my relatives, but past my father, I don't know of any. (My father didn't grow up with his father and both are now deceased so there is the disconnect for my research).
If you have any information that could shed further light on my tree, please let me know. I would be extremely grateful.
