Bill and Kathy, I think we may have the facts a little confused.I read both posts and I think I need to clarify a little as we look into this and thigs start running together.
Henry Jasper is close enough that we know who he is and we know who his father was.We have documentation of this that is it William M.The Henry Jasper that was first mentioned is not the Henry R and Kathy is correct in this. She is also correct that Henry R is the son of Jonathan R and Temperance as listed on the Cherokee application.Whats is in question is one generation back from William M. Is his father Larkin Whitmire or Jonathan R?It could be someone else and we may be stepping all over it, we just dont know yet.William M. had a brother named Henry, but it was not Larkin. There are 2 Larkins. One was Larkin Ransom Whitmire and we know he was a brother to Pap.There is another Lark that was 1 generation back from William M.That is the one that is in question.
Bill is correct that this Cherokee lineage has been talked about quite profusely in the family for at least the last 100 years.I will say though that if you read a good bunch of the Whitmire applications and really pay attention, you will see a pattern. Most did not understand what the entitlements were nor understood how to get them. There was a lot of talking in circles. That being said the Stephen line is in Arkansas, he does have the bloodline and lives in the same general geographical vicinity as the rest of the our bunch of the Whitmires (100 miles).Still we have got to prove this line to Stephen one way or another.
I saw something online that now links us through William M, thru Larkin, through Samuel, and then through Micheal. If this is true, then there isnt a bloodline through the Whitmire side.Could be through the maternal side somewhere else but thats another can of worms.I am suspect on this right now b/c I havent seen the documentation yet and in my conversation with some individuals I didnt get a straight answer on the "facts."Just that it came from Family. This side of the family isnt one that I have linked up with so I dont know as of yet what they have.
I guess what I'm trying to say is we need to focus on Larkin and Jonathan R as its our best lead as of date. This will either tie us to Stephen or Samuel. This is pure speculation on my part but I'd bet everything I own that we are from one of the 2 just b/c of names sake and that there are no other lines with the particular name pattern.
I have watched and learned from Linda and Nancy over the years that they have good documentation with sources etc to keep this straight. This line of Whitmires (our arkansas bunch) is probably the most confusing of the entire line.I must say after 20 years of researching this mess in our line that I am thankful that there are others in this endeavor.Mrs Nancy, Mrs Linda, Kathy, Bill and Scott in particular. Thanks to all and I think we are close.I welcome and appreciate any and all comments and please do shoot holes in any theory as this will make our data into facts....Mitch
