James Robert “J. R.” Whitsel, 20, 319 Beech Ave., died Thursday morning, Oct. 1, 1998, at Conemaugh hospital, Johnstown, as a result of an automobile accident Sept. 7. He was born Aug 18, 1978, in Altoona, the son of Robert Perkins and Barbara Whitsel. Mr. Whitsel enjoyed trading card collecting, hunting and fishing. Surviving are his father of Williamsburg; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and John Eckard of Altoona; a stepfather, Richard Gardner of Upper Reese; six brothers: Roby Perkins, serving with the Marines, Shane Perkins, Kenny Eckard, John Eckard and Sam Eckard, all of Altoona, and Scottie Perkins of Roaring Spring; four sisters: Karen Perkins, Dawn Eckard and Teresa Eckard, all of Altoona, and Misty Perkins of Roaring Spring; grandparents: James Whitsel of Upper Reese and Katherine Whitsel of Lansford; stepgrandparents: Gordon and Wilma Gardner of Upper Reese and Margaret and Edward Eckard of Altoona; two great-grandmothers: Grace Whitsel of Altoona and Catherine Morgans of Leighton; and a fiancé, Gloria Settlemyer of Altoona. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.

Moore.Interment at Carson Valley Cemetery.Friends will received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.He is also survived by several aunts and uncles.In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations..
