My patriarch Henry Hastings is buried at New Hope Cemetery (old section). His grandson John Young (son of Henry's daughter Margaret) married Nancy Whitted on 8 Aug 1812.I can't figure out who Nancy's father is.The will of William Whitted Senior (dated 24 March 1814) includes a bequest to his granddaughter Nancy Young, who is certainly my in-law Nancy Whitted Young.
William Senior's will also makes bequests to his daughters Mary (Bird), Hannah (Harris), Elizabeth (Holden) and Susannah (Thompson); his "two sons" William and Levi; and his grandchildren Samuel Bigelow and William Whitted (son of Levi).
My assumption is that Nancy's father is dead by 1814, hence the bequest directly from grandfather to granddaughter. If that is true, then Nancy's father should be Jehu, whose will was proved in 1804.But Jehu's will doesn't mention a daughter Nancy, only a daughter Anna.
So maybe Nancy was the daughter of Levi. But Levi didn't marry Sarah Neal until 6 Aug 1795.It's possible that Nancy was born right away, and she would have been sixteen when she married John Young. However, Levi's will (1849) says nothing about Nancy's children.(Nancy died before Levi, and her husband wound up in Texas; but you'd think Levi would make a bequest to his grandchildren.)
That leaves William Jr., and his will doesn't seem to mention Nancy either.
So I have ruled out all three sons of William Whitted Senior as the father of Nancy. That doesn't make any sense either.
Could "Anna" actually be Nancy? That would solve the riddle of what happened to Anna.
