Anyone interested in the burial place of Gertrude Whittenburg, of Chattanooga, TN, b.1856. read on. Gerturde Married my grandfather, William Green Zorn about 1905, after his first wife, Margaret Smith Zorn died in 1903.She remained married to him until his death in 1918.She lived on for several years, and was buried along side him at the White Oak Cemetery, in Hill City, Tennessee.
The city of Hill City, TN is now known as North Chattanooga, and the White Oak Cemetery is now part of the Memorial Cemetary.Their gravesites are on top of a hill, still known as the White Oak section. She is buried to his left, in an unmarked grave, according to cemetery records.WG was buried alongside his first wife, to her left, as the tombstones are read. That means that WG is buried between both of his wives. There was a Zorn family argument about her being buried there, as the Zorn descendants who still lived in Chattanooga did not want her buried next to their father.A tombstone was never erected for her.My own grandfather, Fred M. Zorn, who lived in North Little Rock, Ark at the time liked Gertrude very much and insisted she be buried there, as she requested. It is suspected that Gertrude had children of her own, but the records are not available.Joe M. Zorn, Baton Rouge, La. 10/19/2005.
