In Arizona, another building designed by him was the Riordan mansion in Flagstaff.Brothers Timothy and Matthew Riordan made their fortune in the lumber business, supplying lumber to the railroad building efforts.They became part of the wealthy social class in Flagstaff, and married sisters, Caroline and and Elizabeth Metz.
Charles Whittlesey designed a unique Swiss-chalet duplex home that was for both families.The two semi-separate homes were connected by a common billiard room.It has an arts and crafts style exterior, and is over 13,000 sq. ft.Inside it is decorated with Victorian style furnishings.
This Riordan Mansion is open to the public for tours, through the State Park system.Rangers give guided tours of the property.
