Geneva Gerstandt, the daughter of Edward and Katharine Jurgensen Wiese, was born February 7, 1920, at her family farm home in rural Larrabee, IA.She attended Larrabee schools and graduated from Larrabee High School in 1938.On September 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to August Gerstandt at her parent’s home in rural Larrabee.After their marriage the couple farmed southeast of Paullina for many years.Her husband preceded her in death on August 30, 1976, at the family home.Geneva remained on the family farm until moving into Calumet, IA in 1982.She made her home in Calumet until entering the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee and passing away on Thursday, October 11, 2001, reaching the age of 81 years, 8 months and 4 days. She was baptized and confirmed and was a life-long member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet.She was an active member of the Women’s Fellowship of the church. Geneva leaves to cherish her memory a daughter and her husband, Janet and David Meyer of Granville, IA; a son, Ronald Gerstandt of Paullina; four grandchildren:Mike and his wife, Becky Meyer, Janelle and her husband, Chad Lournes, Matthew and Travis Gerstandt; a great-grandson, Colton Meyer; a brother and his wife, Delbert and Ida Wiese of Paullina; two sisters:Arlen and her husband, Donald Wittrock of Primghar and Norma Wiese of Calumet; also nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother, Ray.
Services were held October 13, 2001 at Zion United Church of Christ, Calumet, IA with Rev. Fred Moore officiating.Final Resting Place - Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina, IA.
