Since I posted the earlier message, I have been able to do some digging in the census records and I think we have a connection.
Oral history for the family has Arch Lightfoot and Ada Wilbourn married sometime around 1900.This was definitely a second marriage for Ada and was probably a second marriage for Arch.Together they had two sons, Joseph L. and Alvie.According to an audio tape made of my grandfather (Joseph), at one point the family lived around Tifton, GA and Ada's son from her earlier marriage, Willie Chitwood, lived with them.At some point Ada and Arch separated, Joe and Alvie moved with her to Columbus, GA where she died around 1916/1917?.They then lived with their father until his death around 1918 around Tallahassee, FL.This was the last time they saw Willie Chitwood and my grandfather believed he probably joined the military since this was near the beginning of World War I.
1910 census of GreenBay, Covington Co, AL has Joseph A. Lightfoot and wife Lou Ada, sons Joseph L. (b. 1905)and Alva Jr.(?)(b. 1910), and step-son Willie Chitwood (b.1898?).
Joe and Alvie went to live with their Uncle Tom and Aunt Kate Wilbourn.Alvie's son gave me the names of Ouida Mae, Elton, Ellis, Adis, Edis, Allie as possible names of Wilbourn cousins.Ouida Mae is supposed to be the keeper of family records. Alvie did visit his uncle throughout his life, but I don't know if my grandfather maintained contact at all.Tom Wilbourn's family shows up in the 1910 census in Sanford, Covington, AL, and then in 1930 living in Cedar Springs, Early Co., GA.
My grandfather shows up in the 1930 census in Houston Co, AL.My father was born in Early Co, GA.
I am in touch with Alvie's oldest son and one of his granddaughters. If this sounds like a connection to you, would love to share more information.I have a video tape that probably has Wilbourn cousins in it, made from old pictures of Alvie's visits.I don't know the identity of many of the people in the tape. Please email me and I will help you contact Alvie's family.
