Hello.I am Matthew Wilde, born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England (in 1955).I had thought that all my ancestors lived and died in Sheffield, but have just discovered that the three older brothers of my great-grandfather Edward Wilde (1849-88) emigrated to the United States.I am hoping to make contact with some of their descendants.
John Henry Wilde (b. 1843) probably arrived in the US on 3 June 1863, on the SS Edinburgh. He settled in Indianapolis where he worked as a Saw Smith. He married Hannah (b. 1842 Prussia), and had children from 1866-87: Charles, Clara, Minnie, Edwin, John, Urban, Fanny and Hannah.
Urban Wilde (b. 1844) arrived on 16 August 1865 on the SS Etna.He married Martha Cassell (“Mattie”, b. 1846 Indiana, d. 1891), and had children from 1870-84: Albert, Franklin, William, Annie, Chase and Edward.
Alfred Wilde (b. 1848) arrived on 27 September 1869 on the City of Paris. He married Lodema (b. 1854 Indiana, d. 1884) – children Ethel (1877) and Bessie (1882) – and Mary (b. 1861 Iowa) – children from 1890–1902: William, Cephas, Clifford and Ralph.
Urban and Alfred became farmers, and were among the first group to settle, in the spring of 1870, in Richland Township, Jewell County, Kansas.
I should be very interested to hear from anyone who can fill out the brothers’ family tree for me.Thank you, and good luck with you researches.
