Hi All: This is another of my 'orphan' articles. The obituary says "Bryan" Stout. I had posted a query to the List some time ago, hoping someone would be related to him -- but didn't get any response. He is buried in Palestine Cemetery and his name is spelled "Byram". So, this is how I'm going to spell his name in his obituary. N

'The Death of Another of Iowa's Pioneers' - - - - - - - BYRAM STOUT, of near Leon, Iowa, departed this life December 9, l9l6. He was born August ll, l828, at what is now Farversville, West Virginia.
He was married to CYNTHIA ANN WILDERS in the year of l856. He and his wife came to Monroe County, Iowa, the same winter and the next year he moved five miles north of Leon on a tract of land that he had previously entered. After a short time he moved to the neighborhood between Leon and Decatur City in which vicinity he has ever since lived with the exception of a few months in Decatur City. He moved from there onto the Mart Mills place on whose land he lived when his first wife died, in the year of l869. To this first union there were born four children, BYRAM LLOYD, ROBERT C., NANCY J. and MRS. ANNA B. GILES.
After the death of his first wife, he took the girls to West Virginia and left them there. When he came back, he courted and married CATHERINE VANDERPOOL in the year of l87l. to this union there were born two boys, WILLIAM J. and H.D., HYRAM having died at the age of fourteen years. The rest of his five children are left to mourn the loss of their father with his wife and companion. Besides his children he has twenty-four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was one of twelve children, the most of whom married and had large families. He has fallen asleep to await the voice of the Life Giver.
He professed faith in Christ in l869 or l870 and united with the Christian Church in Leon, to which he has ever since belonged. His neighbors and his family say that he has lived a faithful and honest life.
