Andy Alfred Wildes was a Union veteran of the War Between the States. Born in Ohio, he migrated to Tennessee after his father, James, died in 1879. Andy Alfred was a county official in Lawrence County, TN for a while. The Lawrenceburg newspaper at the time carried an article covering the car/train wreck that killed him at age 81. What a way to go. Front page news and photo.
Incidentally, Andy Alfred's brother, Samuel E. Wildes, another Union veteran, is buried in Hocking County, Ohio. He died in an old soldiers' home. His relatives moved on out to Wisconsin. I have been in contact with a lady there.
Andy's sons included Charles E., James W. and Calvin
Charles Elmer Wildes (1870-1936) is buried next to his father, Andy A. (1846-1927) in Lawrenceburg, TN.
James W. Wildes (1868-1942) the eldest son of Andy Alfred Wildes, is buried in Ethridge, TN, a few miles north of Lawrenceburg. James (Jim) was my g-grandfather. He died 5 years before I was born.
I think Calvin is also buried in Lawrenceburg. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War in the Philippines.
Ethridge is also the burial place for Flora. Thanks for the information about her. I had noted her gravesite, but didn't understand the connection to the family.
Andy Alfred's father, James, is buried in Perry County, Ohio.
