Hi Bonnie; I am stumbling after the Wilford tribe. My Grandmother was Serena Wilford Callaway however, while she lived, I, of course, had no interest in family history and now have to rely on my own pick and shovel work.
My research shows that Horace Wilford, my GGrandfather was born in 1840. Just yesterday I, by accident stumbled upon the 1860 Census for Graves Co. at www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/graves/census/1860. There, at page 335 line 1 is John Wilfred, wife Elizabeth and family including a Horace who is listed as 20 years of age. Also listed are brothers William, 12 and Henry, 6. On page 31, line 7 is a J Wilford with wife Serena. This, I believe, is John Wilford, Horace's older brother who married a Cerena Carter in 1854. I don't think that the name Serena is that common. My Horace named his oldest daughter Elizabeth and my Grandmother Serena so, even though the name, in this census is Wilfred, I am almost certain that this is my line.
Other Wilfords are on page 299, line 20, page 94 lines 16 and 26. I have seen other Wilfords in various census for Trigg and Christian Counties. This may be of some help to you in your search.
If I can be of other assistance please contact me.-----Cal
