I sent the message below to the e-mail address provided here, but I have not received a response.
My father was Pius Wilkerson, one of 8 children of Robert T. Wilkerson, Jr., son of Robert Wilkerson Sr. who was the son of [TA-DAH!] Thornton Wilkerson, Jr., son of Thornton Sr., whom I believe is the person about whom you are seeking information.
The following is quoted from a letter sent to my parents by a cousin who did some family research about 30+ years ago. “Robert Tyler Wilkerson Sr. was the son of Thornton Wilkerson I. Thornton was born in Va. In 1790. Place not known. Came to Ky.Location not known until he arrived in Daviss Co. around 1820. He married Letitia Ellisth of Md. He was a veteran of the War of 1812. Just his one name is all I’ve been able to find in the Ky. Archives at Frankfort. He is a very interesting person to me. He died of typhoid fever. I hope you will be able to read and translate this. If you want a copy of certifying his service in the War of 1812, I can send it to you.”
She goes on to say that Thornton Jr. fought in the Mexican War and in the Civil War.
She passed away some time ago, but I have more information from her, though not as accurate and primarily on the other side of the family (Humphrey and Welch).
I’m very happy to find your information as it establishes a connection to Virginia that I was told about but never confirmed.
