Richard (Sr) was the son of Thomas Willis and Mary Tomlin.Thomas was born abt 1615-1625 in England. In 1653 he married Mary Tomlin, born about 1633.She died 27 Sep 1684.I have seen, but not been able to personally document, information stating that Thomas Willis came to America on the "Speedwell" in 1635 at the age of 19.He shows up in deeds/land transactions for Lancaster Co (later Middlesex Co) and Gloucester Co VA.He owned land on the south side of the Rappahannock River, and along Grave Neck Creek. He and Mary had 3 children:Eleanor, 18 Apr 1655; Richard, 29 Aug 1656; and John, 24 Nov 1658.I have seen names and dates for 3 other children - Mary, 29 Feb 1659; Thomas 8 Sep 1663; and William 1664.While I have no reason to doubt there other children, a marriage contract (Middlesex Co Order Book 1677-1680 p. 115) dated 6 Feb 1670 between Mary Willis, widow, and Matthew Bentley, showmaker, making provisions for her 3 children, Richard, John, and Eleanor. This was her second marriage.
