I had my French researcher trying to look to see where the sergeant Wheelock of Bulkeley's regiment who captured a flag at Fontenoy came from, and the only ranker with that name (or similar) he came across was a Robert Willock from county Mayo who joined Bulkeley's regiment in 1744.
The above is part of a message to me from a friend called Bill who researches the English serving in The Irish Brigade. He was researching one Sergeant Wheelock who presented Roi Louis XIV with a Standard of the Coldstream Guards of England, on the field the day after the Battle of Fontinoy 11 May 1745. and who was promoted by the King to Sous Officer immediatly.
Some of the records can be inaccurate but the subject might engage the interest of a Willock researcher. I hope all you Willocks shall feel proud. Mike Cusack.
