There is a great deal of misinformation about the Wiltsie/Wilsey family that stems from the Jerome Wiltsee book about the fictional Phillip Maton Wiltsie. It seems that the first generation or two in his book were spun to make the tale interesting. Subsequent research citing available records does much to correct the record without damaging the interesting history that is more likely accurate. You may find the answers to your questions about the Maria you mention in the "New York Genealogical and Biographical Record" Vol. 106, July 1975. George Olin Zabriskie traces a sequence of the family's growth from the one ancestor for which there is an historical record- Hendrick Martensen Wiltsie van Copenhagen. If you look in the fourth generation you will find a sister of Martin, son of Cornelius Wiltsie, by the name of Maria who marries a Thomas Barker. Martins wife, Maria DeLange, may be the Maria you cite. If Zabriskie is right, and most believe his is the most accurate record based upon careful research, thereare no provable Wiltsie'swho predate Hendrick above. I tend to believe Zabriskie. I hope this is helpful.
