After seeing some references on this message board to Edward Taylor Wingate as the Edward Wingate at the Battle of Goliad in the Texas revolution, I have reveiwed some of the sources, and I doubt it was Edward Taylor Wingate. Has anyone else looked into this? Also, Does anyone have definitive information on the reason for Edward Taylor leaving his family in Mississippi and starting another in Texas: documentation of a reason or documentation of a divorce or even family tradition as to what happened. I am descended from his grandson John Robert Wingate who came to Texas. A tradition in our family is that John Robert left Mississippi after killing a man who tried to rape his sister. However, I can find no documentation of such an act. Is it possible our family story was really about his grandfather Edward Taylor Wingate?
