Thanks for your reply, Vern! It's good to see others are interested in the Winney name also.
I'm really wondering if there MIGHT be a slight chance of some connection here. Fairfield really isn't too far from Davenport, Iowa, where (according to Henry's obit)my GGGrandfather, Henry Daniel Winney,(b.in 1835) moved to at the age of manhood, and married my GGGreatmother, Charlotte Elmivia Hayward. To this marriage were born two children, Charles Wellington Winney and Carrie Belle Winney (who married a Swearingen).
With your James possibly being around the age of my GGGrandfather, it makes me wonder if they may be brothers. Do you know if James had siblings and what their names might be? From Henry Daniel Winney's obit, we believe that he was born in New York.
Hopefully we might be able to help each other out if something connects here. Or if others out there have any info that may help others researching this name, I'm sure it would be more than welcome by all!
Thanks again, Vern!
