My brother Michael William Winsell and I discussed the summers he spent with our grandparents in Pawhuska, Ok while they were alive. The question of "Where did the name Winsell come from?" was posed by me. He stated he had been told it came from Germany. I asked about grandma's saying she was part Bavarian. He said he had no knowledge of where she would have gained this since her maiden name was Lewis and it comming from England.
I told my brother of the large concentration of Winsells in the Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa region. He and I remember from U.S. History the Germanic people settling this area.
If anyone can shed some light on any of this, we would be greatly appreciative.
