Just come across this in the Fifth Report Of The Commissioners, Children’s Employment Commission (1862) and was wodering where John Wintle might have lived? Also thought you might find this interesting.

John Wintle, age 13. - Work at wrapping up shoe tips in paper. Hours (6 a.m. till 5.30 p.m). Sometimes make overtime till 7.30 p.m. Have done so for two or three weeks together. Get 3s. a week. Don’t know the letters (not even capitals). Go to school on Sunday, but not other evenings. Leave work in time, but go home and clean mother’s horse. She has a horse and cart for carrying. His elder brother William, aged 15, earns only 2s. 6d., but goes to school Sundays and five nights a week, from 7 till 9.
