I'm looking for descendants or relatives of Harold Richard Wintle F.R.G.S. (1871 - 1941), born in the village of Maker in Cornwall (UK), to a vicar, Frederick T Wintle (b. 1831 in Headington - Rector of Bere Ferrers (Beer-Ferris), Devon circa 1880), and his wife, Annie. Siblings : Frederick T, Ethel M (x2 !?), Garnet r & Mabel J.
Harold was a well travelled, experienced man, being a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. I believe he may also have been a novelist. He wrote regularly for Yachting Monthly magazine as their correspondent in the Southwest of England shortly before the first world war. The 1901 census lists him as a visior to a property in Brighton. His last known address was a house called "Harrietsham" which still stands today, in Maidstone, Kent.
If anyone knows anything about the family, or if you are a relative, it would be great to hear from you - especially if you have literature or photographs of his boat, the International Six Metre Class yacht "Houri", which he had built in 1911, as I now own her !
