Jonathan: I haven't visited this forum in a long time. I just returned from a trip to Missouri. I wanted to go to Liberty in an attempt to resolve some issues, but didn't make it. John Wirt (1794) the subject of your 3/25/10 post is my ggg grandfather and all indications are that George is his brother. Their father was George Wirt Sr. I do not have a name for the mother. I first found them in the 1810 Scott County. KY, census. After that it gets a little confusing. I found an obituary in the Liberty newspaper for George's wife, Sarah. She died before the census for 1850 was taken. I was at first unsure of who Samuel Jessee was - still only sure that he is somehow related to Amanda Wirt's husband Silas Jessee. Amanda was George and John's sister. My cousin, Cyndie Wolfe, has a family bible completed by John's daughter in law, Rebecca McWilliams Wirt, that shows John's birthdate as 20 Nov 1783 (the date you and I have for George). Also, John was married twice. Mary Hiatt is his second wife and my ggg grandmother. Prior to that he was married to Mary Augusta Simms. I have a fair amount of research on this family, but am still working on a few mysteries. One mystery is a photo taken about 1860 of an old man, an old woman and several couples who appear to be children and in-laws of the older couple. I wanted to go to Liberty to see if I could find any portraits/pictures of Samuel and Andrew Ringo,Philip R. Wirt or their wives. No one is sure of who the people are in the photo, but I suspect it is John Wirt, Mary Hiatt, and his children by his first marriage with their spouses. I have also been looking for a copy of a book about the Simms family in hope of finding pictures of Richard Simms and his children. Richard was the father of Mary Augusta Simms.
