Folks to add to what Steve said in his last posting. We must keep one though in mind, when researhing the Wiswell/Wiswall/Wisel surname, we as a family are one of the older families in the New England Colonies, to include are neighbors to the north. As in the Civil War, familes were split in their beliefs during the Revolutionary War and the time leading upto it.We had brothers, one a Troy, the other not, each spelling the name different or in the case of one violent family disagreement, a Wiswell son goes west and changes his name spelling to Wisel. Many of our Troy kin went north to Canada near the end of the War, then westward and down the central part of the USA.In short, during your research don't throw the baby out with the bath water, cause its name is Wisel or Wiswall and your's is Wiswell.
