My grandfather and his brother came to the U.S. sometime between 1900 and 1915.They initially settled in the Centralia Penn. area under the names of Michael and Harry Wolchanski. Shortly thereafter my grandfather moved to Rockland Lake N.Y. He married and became a citizen in 1925 in Nyack N.Y. The name listed on the document was Michael Wolchanski Klopchin. His brother in Penn. maintained the surname Wolchanski. They originally came from an area at the base of Carpathian Mountains near the mouth of the Dneiper River. I am looking for any information available about that location (country, city ,town, village?) Additionally I would be very interested in contacting any of their relatives either in their European home area or in the U.S. No one in my family knows why my Grandfather changed his surname to Klopchin or what the word Klopchin means ,if anything. I would be grateful for any assistance rendered.
