Gail, I have been trying for several years, off and on, to find the connection, and all I can find is that they lived in that area at the same time, which we already knew. One thing that really bothers me is that Henry is listed by several people as the father of our Philip, but all we know for sure is that this Henry lived in Northampton County, had a son named Philip, and that the dates would make it possible for him to be our Philip's father. We have no official proof that he really was. Some people even put the death date of the wrong Henry on their tree,1776, when the Henry we're talking about died in 1766. We do know that there were several Henry Wolfs and several Philip Wolfs.I also wondered why our Philip and Elizabeth were sponsors at the baptism of a Hertzel child in 1776, daughter of Adam and Clara Hertzel. Not too long ago, I found mention that a Magdalena Knecht, wife of Johannes Knecht, was the daughter of Henrich Wolf. When this Johannes died, rather young, he was buried in Dryland Church cemetery.I have to admit that it seems that this Magdalena might be a sister of our Philip, because the dates would work for that, too. When I did some research online, I found that the Knechts (now Knights) were related to the Hertzels and Schlauches (Adam Hertzel's wife was a Schlauch) in many ways.As a matter of fact, it seems that cousins married more than once. This might be why Philip and Elizabeth sponsored a Hertzel/Schlauch child, if Philip's sister was related to them by marriage.I don't know, though...it's just conjecture until we have proof.
You also asked if Philip had two homestead places, and the answer is yes.We were there in 2005, and a historian in the area, Bill Howie, who is also connected to the Wolfs, showed us both. The "Old Krauss Place" only came to be called that after the Krausses took it over. I believe a descendant of Philip's, Mary Wolf, married a Krauss.During Philip's time, it was his place.
I don't know nearly as much genealogy of the Wolfs as my mother and fathr, Doris and Hoyett Wolfe, who have been researching the family for 60+ years, but I am trying to carry on!Please let me know if you find any more information.Theresa Wolfe Snoddy
