I am trying to determine who the parents of Jacob C. Beeler (b. 15 June 1828) are.Jacob lived in Grainger County and was married three times – 1st to Rachel Akin, 2nd to Mary Satterfield and 3rd to Lucinda Ellender Seymour.
For years, I thought that Jacob was the son of Daniel and Wyney (Wolenbarger) Beeler, then I received a copy of a deed in which the heirs of Isaac Beeler sold a piece of property to John Clark in Grainger County on 28 October 1878.
The heirs were named as: Mary M. Beeler, Catheryn Beeler, Daniel Beeler, Nancy Beeler, Jacob Beeler and Lucinda E. Beeler. The acknowledgement showed that Nancy was the wife of Daniel Beeler and Lucinda E. was the wife of Jacob Beeler.
Knowing that Jacob Beeler m/3 Lucinda Ellender Seymour, this convinced me that Jacob was a son of Isaac Beeler and wife, Mary Wolfenbarger. Then I found the following:
In August of 2001, Sheryl Siebrasse posted the following list of the children of Isaac Beeler and Mary Wolfenbarger. She said that this information “was obtained from the family Bible of Mary and Isaac” and that it “was received from Marvin Hamilton of Houston, Texas.”
1. Levina Beeler b: 21 October 1827 2. Joseph Beeler b: 4 June 1829 3. Daniel Beeler b: 6 September 1831 4. Tandy Saicy Beeler b 24 February 1834 5. Nancy Beeler b: 17 April 1836 6. Peter Beeler b: 18 August 1839 7. Robert W. Beeler b: 1 April 1841 8. Mary Beeler b: 5 April 1845 9. Catherine Beeler b: 14 April 1848 10. Martha Beeler b: 11 June 1851
The 1840 Grainger County, Tennessee census verifies the first six children.Their ages and sex fit perfectly.
Obviously, there is no Jacob on this list of children. Also, he was born 7 months and 25 days after Levina which would rule him out.Which leaves the following question – why was he named an an heir in the deed?
Another question arises –
Isaac’s will, written 1 November 1870; proven 8 October 1878 names his sole heir as his wife, Mary.If she was his sole heir, why were Mary M.,Catheryn, Daniel and Jacob named as heirs in the deed?
Andy Stringer, in his RootsWebb’s World Connect file, claims that Isaac and Mary were divorced.I have requested verification of this but have not had an answer yet.
I would appreciate any help in solving this puzzle. Also, would love to contact Marvin Hamilton if you know of him.
