I am frustrated. I just finished a writing you a lengthy response, and suddenly the board blanked out.
I will try to make this shorter: my great-grandfather would probably have been born closer time you're looking for but he did not go to Texas until 1892 with a growing family.
As an aside, I have a book called "No Hills, No Rocks, No Trees". It was written by one of my aunts. She must have kept a notebook as a small girl and documented the entire trip, and life in Texas.
I have noticed many comments on this thread commenting about the Womble Coat of Arms. I have a copy of it. I got it some years ago from a geological company. It's made of plastic. For years I wondered if it was a real coat of arms or for just a plastic look-alike. I googled "Womble Coat of Arms" and was surprised to see a picture of the coat of arms and it was virtually identical to the one . It also had an interesting description of the womble's and the Womack's. Apparently all of us come from a castle by believers in southern England. I'll have to look it up again. best regards, Bill
