It is good to hear from you.I have spent considerable time researching descendants of my GG grandfather James Wonderland.I have a lot more information then I did when I posted my message.
I have the social security application of Forrest Martineau Wonderly, born September 1 1908 in Lorain, Ohio. His parents were Guy Spurgion Wonderly and Elizabeth Martineau.
Guy Spurgion Wonderly, born February 19 1877 in Beccaria Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, was the son of Forrest Wonderly, born May 15 1847, and Mary Elizabeth Williams, born April 21 1847.Both parents were born in Blair County, Pennsylvania.Forrest was a Civil War veteran. This information is documented in a letter in Forrest’s Civil War Pension file and in his obituary, both of which I have.
Forrest Wonderly was the son of James Wonderland, born in New Jersey, and his second wife, Susannah Nail.James also served in the Civil War.This is where things get complicated.James abandoned both of his sons from his first marriage and Susannah and her two sons to marry his third wife Sarah Fry in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He then abandoned Sarah and her two daughters to marry his forth wife Lenora Edmonds on May 19 1853 in Harrison County, Virginia.Lenora is my GG grandmother.
Why the name change to Wonderly?I don’t know.Three of James Wonderland’s sons changed their name to Wonderly. They were Peter who was born to James’ first wife, Mary Kessler, Forrest and Susannah Nail’s second son, James.
I have a lot more information and documentation to support it, too much to post here.
I would like to learn more about Forrest Martineau Wonderly.
