Dear Liz and group;
Several of us are trying to sort out two Woods lines that both started in the Cecil Co., MD, Chester Co., PA and New Castle Co., DE areas who were probably distantly related but both ended up with branches in Orange County, North Carolina--and then intermarried.I think the Gordian knot would have been easier to untangle without cutting it to pieces.That being said, there was a Joseph Woods, son of Hugh and Jane Woods born November, 1750 and baptized May 6, 1751 in Old Swede's Church in New Castle, Delaware.He was the oldest son of Hugh and Jane.Thus Hugh Woods was born about 1725-28.
Two marriages of Woods also took place at the same Church within a few years of Joseph Woods' baptism. I'm guessing these were an older and younger brother of Hugh Woods.William Woods married Martha McCleland March 25, 1740 and Thomas Woods married Mary Martin September 29, 1755.
So who were the parents of these three: William, Hugh and Thomas Woods? Were these three brothers and who else were their siblings?How does this family relate to other Woods of Chester County, particularly the Quaker line at Darby?
