LIST OF 1847 - Mecklenberg County, NC NC Regiment - Company E Stanley Vick " all from Edgecomb County, save 18 from Martin County" This was a long list of Troops.
From worldconnect: father of William S. Vick : some list Jesse Vick with mother Caroline - no surname. and say that William S. Vick married Susan Elizabeth James
other: William Stanley Vick married Caroline Woodside father of Wm. S. Vick: William Gaston Vick b. 1772 - VAd. 1790 NC mother: Lucretia Tyler b. Duplin County, NC
There is another William G. Vick b. 1832 and died 1885 Horry County, SC
Now my thinking is: Caroline Woodside married William Stanley Vick - they moved to TN where the kids were born. He served in the American-Mexican War and was killed or died of malaria or dysentery -which was a larger problem than being shot! That is why she was a widow in TN.
OR: her husband fought in the Civil War and was killed and so by 1880 she was living with her unmarried son Andrew J. Vick - in TX.Many went to TX after the War of Rebellion.
Also on the list of 1847 for Troops: William B. Flanner - 2nd LT - NC Regiment - Co. H. "company from New Hanover and Wake Counties" see the site lsited above for American-Mexican War.
So I believe that Stanley Vick who married Caroline Woodside was Willliam Stanely Vick...but have no proof.... so don't rely on this as proof - just suppostions.
I didn't find variations of the Flanner name except possibly: Flawner and Flander - but I don't think NC Flanners used those.
