Just to get this forum started, here are the spelling variations from the Canadian phone listings using - http://www.canada411.comhttp://www.canada411.com -
WOLEVER - 4 (2 Ontario, 2 Alberta) WOLAVER - 2 (Ontario) WOOLAVER - 43 (27 Nova Scotia, 8 Ontario, Toronto and going SW toward Detroit, 3 New Brunswick, 2 Prince Edward Island, 2 Alberta, 1 Manitoba).
Does the fact that the great majority of WOOLAVER names are in NS (over 63% of phone listings) imply they came from USA (perhaps as Loyalists during the Revolution) ?
A well-known Woolaver in NS is Lance, a lawyer who has become a noted writer and historian. He has championed the life story of Maud Lewis, the "Grandma Moses of Nova Scotia" and a stage play has also been created from this story of our own "primitive" painter.
