Some CROCKETT researchers are grappling with some circumstances and hoping the WOOLDRIDE and SHRADER researchers can help.
In 1851, two Robert A CROCKETTs were born in Tazewell Co, VA.The first was born on 13 May to Addison CROCKETT and was named Robert Addison CROCKETT.A good census trail exits for him in VA and after he moved to Tarrant Co, TX, by 1880, and later to Huggins Twp, Gentry Co, MO in 1900.
The second Robert A CROCKETT was born possibly in September 1851 (per 1900 census).According to "Marriage Records of McDowell Co, WV", Robert CROCKETT, age 17, married on 20 May 1868 Elizabeth DOUGHTEN, age 30.Robert A was born in Tazewell Co, VA; parents were Robert CROCKETT and Nancy WOOLDRIDGE.She was born in NC; parents were Jesse and Artemesia DOUGHTEN.When Robert married again, his parents were listed as before. This Robert A CROCKETT m1: Elizabeth DOUGHTEN and m2: Anna Laura Anne POE.
From what we are gleaning, Sarah ("Sally") SHRADER was a daughter of Henry and Louisa ("Levicy") SHRADER.Sarah's first husband was a WOOLDRIDGE.Her second a BANDY.(Her mother Louisa traditionally is called a KENNEDY, but I saw a post suggesting that maybe she was a BRITTON.)
John J WOOLDRIDGE and Sarah ("Sally") SHRADER were the parents of Nancy WOOLDRIDGE who appears to have been the mother of three children of Robert CROCKETT [1819-1895]: Polly, John, and Robert A.Robert CROCKETT (1819-1895) was from the Cavitts Creek area north of Tazewell, VA.
The index of 1820 census points to a single SHRADER household, that of Heny (y is superscripted to indicate abbreviation) Shrader 210001-33010.
Nancy WOOLDRIDGE married 1st 8 Jan 1824 John James WOOLDRIDGE (died early 1840s) and m2: Thomas BANDY.John J WOOLDRIDGE apparently returned to Campbell Co, VA, in time for the 1840 census (North East District, Campbell Co, VA. Tazwell Wouldridge ) which shows his household with two boys and two girls. He must have died 1840-1842. The WOOLDRIDGE children: William, Nancy, and Jane (at last these three).Possibly the 1840s girls were Nancy and Jane, while the boys must have included William C.
Sally (SHRADER) M(WOOLDRIDGE) married next Thomas BANDY on 16 July 1842 in Tazewell Co, VA.
Nancy WOOLDRIDGE ("Noncy Woldridge" 20) and two children were residing with grandmother Louisa (Levicy) SHRADER in 1850, but by 1860 Louisa (as "Vicy") had moved in with son William and the two children went to live with Robert and Eliza Jane (MOORE) CROCKETT.
Nancy's mother, Sally BANDY 45 and husband Thomas 67 were at #449/449 with their own children and Jane WOOLRIDGE 16, possibly a sister of Nancy.
William C WOOLRIDGE of 1850 was probably Nancy's brother. Jumping ahead to 1860, is that Louisa in the household with William and listed as "Vicy" (95), probably for "Levicy"? (Jumped 25 years between 1850 and 1860?) If so, then Nancy must have had to move somewhere else; that's when the children have gone to Robert Crockett's household.
William C WOOLRIDGE, presumably Robert A CROCKETT's maternal uncle, was later a neighbor in McDowell Co WV.
* 1860: Tazewell Co, Western District, Baptist Valley PO page 849 (159)
William C Wooldridge 26 VA farmer
The Wooldridge household immediately followed that of William's mother who was now Sarah BANDY (66) wife of Thomas BANDY (87).
* In 1870, Wm C (as "WOODRIDGE") and family were listed in Tazewell Co, VA, at Jeffersonville District, Tazewell Court House PO area.
* By 1880, they had moved to Big Creek Twp, District 77, McDowell Co, WV and in 1880 appear to have lived near Robert and Elizabeth CROCKETT. The CROCKETTs were household #136/136. Henry WOLDRIDGE was at #140/141. The two youngest children were born in WV indicating they must have moved there ca 1878. William C and Mary were at #141/142.
No marriage record, formal or traditional, is known (to us over at Crockett researcH) for Robert CROCKETT and Nancy (WOOLDRIDGE) CROCKETT. The fact that they had at least one child rests on marriage licenses of that alleged son.
Robert CROCKETT's second marriage to Eliza Jane MOORE was into an old and very religious family. The couple got custody of John and Polly, who had been living with Nancy WOOLDRIDGE in the Louisa SHRADER household in 1850.
Some very loose ends:
SHRADER researchers know Thomas Bandy as a second husband for Sarah ("Sally") SHRADER, but do not seem to know John J WOOLDRIDGE as the first. That came from WOOLDRIDGE GenForums and and other postings.
Robert A CROCKETT (born ca 1851) does not appear on the 1860 census with either of his parents. He is the only one actually documented as a son.
After Robert A married in 1868 supposedly at the age of 17 to a woman nearly twice his age, his father, Robert CROCKETT, having married again, named another son Robert A ca 1870.
If Robert CROCKETT and Nancy had separated by the time the 1850 census was taken, and Nancy was living under her original surname with her two children (Polly, John), then what's the explanation for another child born ca Sept 1851?
A daughter named Jane and called "Jennie" of Robert A CROCKETT and his first wife, Elizabeth DOUGHTEN,married Robert McGuire. Her mother Elizabeth resided with the couple for a while. They had children Hobart Charles and Columbus Carl McGiure. They resided in the Crocketts Cove locale near a number of SHRADERs
Any known records or family secrets would be welcomed if we can explain this scenario. Also, and corrections or modifications to all this.
