Elizabeth, I don't think the name Wolery, Woolery, Wollery, Ullery, etc. was changed because of any disagreement. The name Ullerich seems to be the start. The family of John Wolery in W.Va. had children whose schoolteacher told them they were spelling it wrong and it should have two o's.Remember every time the surname was written (as on census, deeds, etc.) somebody else was usually writing it and they spelled it as they believed it to be.I have found many of the same people listed on different documents with as many as three spellings. Wooley and Woolley and Wolley are examples. I have some early research papers where a Wooley clan in Kentucky deny vehemently being related to the Woolery's.Who knows?
