The online listing of the Patterson Cemetery is in alphabetical order. The list published in Vol. 188 of Alabama Records by Pauline Jones Gandrud is apparently in grave order. This alternate list shows Mary Woolf Sep 16, 1813-Aug 6, 1889 next to Demarius Woolf, wife of J. S. Couch 1833-1833. It turns out that this is significant. Yesterday, I found the 1880 census for John Couch in Calhoun Co., AL. The last entry for the household is Mollie Woolf, age 60, mother-in-law. It seems clear that this is the Mary Woolf buried in Patterson Cemetery next to Demarius.
Another interesting curiosity is that in 1870 Demarius is listed as Jinnie and in 1880, the abstract I read lists her name as Jamima. I wonder if her name was Demarius Virginia Woolf (nickname Jennie/Jinnie). Of course her name could also have been Barbara (a 19 year old Barbara is listed with Mary Woolf on the 1850 census of Calhoun Co., AL--if this isn't Demarius, it's a sister, but if so, where was Demarius?). However, the marriage record (extracted by Josephine R. Woolf in 1978) lists her a Demeris Woolf m. John Couch 28 May 1852 in Benton (Calhoun) Co., AL.
The different names make it confusing, but by circumstance, they all appear to be the same woman. It would appear that her father died before 1850. Perhaps an evaluation of the 1840 GA census listings for Woolf, Wolf, Wolfe, and Wolff may suggest an answer.
