Following up on my original post. I have learnt a little more and will be visiting relatives soon to gather what they have.
Robert Woolford cam to Australia from Paris fleeing from the Franco Prussian war (1870-1871). Robert Woolford was a watchmaker in Paris. His family originally came from England, in fact I think he may of as well. His trade certificates are from France however.
I don't hard dates on all this but I will this year.
The Woolfords Started out in Perth and travelled across Australia haveing businesses along the way.
Robert had a son also called Robert who in turn had Harry, ??? and my grandfather Malcolm. Malcolm ended up in Newcastle where the family still has jewellry stores.
Most of the family ended up in Melbourne however.
I have heard a story of a lost brother and heard some discussion of where he ended up. this would be one of the Roberts' brother.
There is another big Woolford family in South Australia. However they were originally called Woolfolk in the mid to late 19th century. Lots of info on them can be found in:
Woolford, Florence,1912- From tillers and teamsters :the family histories of the descendants of Joseph Woolford and Ann Adams /compiled by Florence Woolford, Rhonda Stagg. [Port Pirie, S. Aust.] :The Woolford Family History Book Committee,1985.
A copy is at the National Library of Australia (you can get this as an interlibrary loan at most larg libraries.
I would be more than happy to have people send me any information people may have on my Woolford family.
I will also be catching up with relatives to collect what we have (a great aunt has a detailed genealogy).
I will ultimately put this altogether into a booklet/book format for anyone that wants it.
