Abner Wooten, Lewis Wooten, Hillaire Rousseau
I have a new theory as I found some info recently that connects Lewis Wooten, Abner Wooten, and Hillaire Rousseau in Wilkes/Surry Co, NC.I am thinking that Lewis Wooten is Hillaire Rousseau's grandson from Thomas or Benjamin.Lewis Wooten is married to (Mary?) Elizabeth Wooten per his will.(He is also a Quaker per the MM).Abner and Patty Wooten seems to be some of their children.
Please look over the following info and give me your comments:
1.) March 27, 1778:Hillar Roussau enters
200 acres; Ridge near John Robbins Mill, including an old cabin formerly property of Mordaci----uller (Mordaci Muller?) on Mulberry Waters.
2.) July 28, 1784:Between Hillar Roussau and Lewis Wooten - 40 lbs. 199 ac Waters Mulberry near John Robbins Mill.
(Hillaire is a pretty wealthy man and did NOT have to sell this property (where he lives close by) but probably wanted his grandson/family nearby.Lewis may have received some inheritance money?)Lewis is a very popular name in the Rousseau family...
3.) March 1st, 1798:Between Abner Wooten and Elizabeth Cullom...torn..199ac branch Mulberry Creek...John Robinses Mill Creek... John Baltrip,Edmund Denny, Anny Combs? (looks like Corntis?) (female) & Abner Wooten.
If by chance anyone comes access these records, please email them to me as it would be great to get all of the transcription.(i.e. Did Abner give this land to her or did she pay something for it)
Per John P. Waters Cherokee application, we get his Elizabeth Collum's name in all these spellings (Collum, Cullum, Cullen).Per Wilborn Waters Biography, "Life and Adventures of Wilborn Waters", we get that Elizabeth was half-Catawba (thus her mother, Mary Elizabeth Wooten is full Catawba and probably from the Mulungeons Collins/Gibsons that are in the same area-see below*) thus all the Wooten children from Lewis and Mary Elizabeth would now be listed Mulatto (aka Catawba Indian) in the census.Since Lewis Wooten died in 1787, we may never know his color but we do know that he knows Hillaire Rousseau. The other Wootens who came earlier in 1774-1777 are: George, Richard & Absalom (Thomas/Susannah Wooten line and not related....Well,on second thought, one never knows!).
*1795 Hillair Rousseau enters 640 ac on New River near Vardy Collins.(Vardy came in 1790).
If you have ANY more info tying these families together (or any proof to the contrary), I would really appreciate it!(I do know that Benjamin Wooten's father was Thomas and Priscilla Wooten.)
