She was married to John Wortman, the son of David and Kiziah Cook Wortman. According to their Cleveland County marriage license, they were married at her mothers home on March 3, 1870 by Newberry Prewit. However, her mother, in a letter dated September 18, 1870 says that Sarah was married on February 2, 1870. (Her mother was wrong about the date)Sarah and Johnhad two children who died as infants. Other children were Ambrose, Johnny, Martha, Charlie, and Sydney.Sarah Finer died on March 14, 1924 according to granddaughterIrene Hoyle of Casar, N.C. whom I visited in 1998.This is verified by her death certificate which I have a copy of.Her husband died Sept. 8, 1899. His grave is at the Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. We did not locate her grave at this cemetery, however her death certificate says she is buried there.
1. One of the infants who died was a girl- Sarah Alice Wortman.
A coronors inquest was made at the Pisgah Baptist Church 19 Feb. 1878. It says the little girl died of natural causes, viz diptheria.
