I am curious to know if the Wrigley's of Barnby Dun were connected with John Wrigley of Thorne, Yorkshire. In the 1891 Census John is a retired joiner, widower, age 78, living in Back Street, Thorne. You probably realise that Thorne is only a short distance from Barnby Dun. John had two sons, Alfred who became a railway engine driver and William who was a printer and stationer.Alfred lived at Mexborough, Yorkshire, for some years. His youngest son Ralph Wrigley 1886-1940, was a Winding Engine driver at Brodsworth Colliery near Doncaster. He and his first wife, Lilian, were friendly with my grandparents for many years. In the 1920/30 period he possessed an Auston '7' (Baby Austin) car and used to take his family and my grandmother to visit our relations in Ripon, Yorks.Lily Wrigley died in 1933 and he eventually married my grandmother's, widowed, elder sister in 1939. Sadly he died the following July and was buried with his first wife in Doncaster Hyde Park Cemetery. Two sons, Ralph Jnr 1915 and Ronald 1920, both married during WW2 and had children.
