I am responding to yout posting on Genealogy.com about WROTENs of DE dated March 4, 2001
I have an ancestor named Benjamin Franklin Wroten b August 02, 1832 in Baltimore. His death certificate in 1908 lists his parents as David Wroten of Centerville, Maryland and Mary Barton of Maryland. From city directories, it is apparent that Benjamin was a painter and that David was a ships carpenter. Wroten is an unusual name in Baltimore, so most of those listed in the city directories are related and descended from David.
I had always thought that David came from the eastern shore of Maryland, perhaps his family was from Dorcester county as that seems to be the source of most WROTENs in Maryland.
Recently, theLDS put the 1880 census online and since David and MAry lived past 1880, they are both listed(see below).
The big suprise is that he was from Delaware and apparently born about 1793 ( about 17 years earlier than I had thought)
Your listing on Job Wroten b 1760 in MD who died in Sussex, DE looks like a good candidate for my David's father. Do you have a date of birth or other infor on Job's son David to confirm the match? I have a pretty fair amount on David's descendants if you are interested.
