I'm looking for the family of my husband's gg-grandmother. According to info I was given by his aunt, her name was Amanda Yankee b.1837 d. 1893. She married a man 19 years her senior named James Oliver Alexander Martin. In the 1850 census of Yazoo Co., MS there is only one Yankey family as follows; William A. Yankey, 47, m, planter, Virginia Edney C. Yankey, 39, f , Mississippi John Oldham,17, m,laborer, Mississippi Mary E. Yankey, 13,f, Mississippi Sarah A. Oldham, 13, f," James Oldham, 10, m," Minerva Oldham 8, f," Moses Oldham, 6, m," Mary J. Yankey, 2, f," Jonathan Yankey, 1, m"
Mary E. Yankey is the right age but I have the name Amanda. Also was it common to have two children with the same name, i.e. Mary? Could Amanda be a nickname of some sort? Also given the ages of the Oldham children, I wonder if both William and Edney had children from previous marriages? Any help with this would be appreciated!
