I have a question relating to my aledged Cherokee Indian heritage. My great grandmother was very dark complected and she said she was a descendant of James White, founder of Knoxville, as well as a Cherokee Indian woman. Her mother, Rebecca Yarnell Scates, died when she was less than one year old, and Joseph Scates died when she was 11.She, therefore, knew little of her ancestry.I have read that James White's great grandson, Thomas S. White, was married to a Cherokee.
