The abbey (plantation) you are talking about is St. Nicholas Abbey - which is where Col. Benjamin Berringer and Margaret Foster lived.I visited it several years ago...and had a private tour of the home by the owner - last name of Cave...retired military, I recall & he was most gracious!
It is still an active sugar producing plantation (about an hour drive from Bridgetown) & is open to visitors for a fee. It is said to be the second oldest plantation & home on the island.
It was a thrill to be in a house that old...that ourancestors lived in...certainly the visit to St. Nicholas Abbey was the highlight of our trip to Barbados.
Save your pennies and visit it yourself. We truly enjoyed Barbados and the people were wonderful. Love to go back again!
Glad you are able to borrow the book (as mentioned)from your library.
There is another book/can't recall name at the moment...that has to do with the connections of early Barbados people and early South Carolina.Maybe your librarian can look it up for you.
