Intersted in your Thomas 1 and William 2 information.I gather that William 3 and Thomas 3 are the same William and Thomas in Lincoln County, NC in 1790 Census. These two would be born before 1755, correct?
There are a few of us working to determine the father of William 3, Thomas 3, and also their presumed brothers Robert (b. 1752 in Surry Co., VA) who moved to Franklin Co., GA, and John (b. 1762 in Halifax Co., NC) who moved to Rutherford Co., TN, and maybe others. Please see my earlier posting on this forum regarding early VA and NC records for Yearwoods & Earwoods.
The records found from 1754 - 1790 fit the migration patterns of the time and place. In summary, it looks as if:
John & Katherine Yearwood christened their son, Robert Yearwood, in 1754 in Albemarle Parish, Surry County, VA.Birthdate given as 1752. Probably had other children at this point as well. (Source: Albemarle Parish Register, Library of VA)
John Earwood next appears in Halifax County, NC in 1762 as a neighbor to Green Emry in a deed record, then again as a witness to Green Emry's will in 1763.(Source: Deeds of Halifax County, NC, Charlotte Public Library; Wills of Halifax County, NC, Georgia Archives)
John Yearwood, who fought in the Revolutionary War, and later moved to Rutherford County, TN, gave his birthdate as 1762 in Halifax Co., NC in his Rev War pension.(Source:Rutherford County Circuit Court Records, Transcribed by Diane Yearwood Peagram, Murfreesboro, TN)
John Erewood, Martin Earwood, & Joseph Yarwood appear in 1778 Rowan County, NC Tax Lists. This must be an older John besides the one born 1762, as he was too young to own land.John (b. 1762) declared in Rev War pension that he lived in Rowan County at enlistment in 1781. (Source:Rowan County Tax List, Charlotte Public Library; Rutherford County Court Records, Transcribed by Diane Yearwood Peagram, Murfreesboro, TN)
Robert Erwood appears on Burke County land record in 1778, as living on land owned by Colonel Hugh Brevard, formerly occupied by John Fish.A later bond to make title to a piece of land from Hugh Brevard to Robert Earwood dated October 1778 was admitted to Lincoln County Court of Pleas in 1809.Brevard and Fish families were neighbors to Lincoln County Earwoods in 1790. (Source: Burke County Land Records, Charlotte Public Library; Lincoln County Court of Please, Charlotte Public Library; 1790 Census of Lincoln County, NC)
In 1790 Census of NC, William, Thomas, John (b. 1762), and Mary Earwood are all neighbors in Lincoln County, NC.This part of Lincoln County was originally Rowan County, then Burke County.A Joseph Garwood was residing in Rowan County in 1790.Robert Yearwood appears in Washington County, GA in 1791. (Source:1790 Census of Lincoln County, NC; Augusta Chronicle, July 1791, Georgia Archives)
My thought is that John & Katherine Yearwood, who were in Surry, VA and Halifax, NC are the parents of Robert, William 3, Thomas 3, John (b. 1762), and possibly Joseph and Martin.Of course there is no concrete proof, but the extant facts strongly suggest this is the case.
I have seen some information taken from Tennessee Cousins and The History of Sweetwater Valley that suggests a William Yearwood, born 1730 in England, who migrated to Charleston, SC is the immigrant ancestor to the Sweetwater Valley Yearwoods, and thus is your William 2.Have you uncovered any proof for this William (b. 1730) who lived in Charleston? The author of Tennesse Cousins (Ray) makes mention that The History of Sweetwater Valley (Lenoir) account is undocumented.Thomas 1 is completely new to me - any proof for him?
