I am also a Yelk; presently residing in Deer Park WA and doing genealogy.
I have a copy of a "Declaration of Intention" for someone named John Jerk. This document states he was born in Janiwear Austria on February 15, 1852. He immigrated to the US in 1870 via the port of New York arriving on the Kasmas from Bremen Germany. It further states he is a farmer and lives in Waterloo Wisconsin. it further states he lives with his wife names Mary "Marsch" Jerk (quotation marks are actually on the document!).
I also have a copy of a "Reisse Pass" for an individual named Johann Jilg (I think thiss is also for the above named individual). It was his authorization to travel. It is interesting to note that it was issued by the Kaisers of Austria.
