I came across the Yelverton name whilst researching my husband's ancestry - his grandmother (father's side) was a Pearce. This family had a private cemetary nr Parramatta in which the names "Archdall" and "Yelverton" were also found. The Archdall's had a son named Barry Yelverton Archdall.I was intrigued and wondered if there was a marriage connection to the Pearces' or why were they there?Archdall was a church minister or should I say Archdalls because there were two Charles Archdalls (jr & sr )who were both ministers at Hunter's Hill (not far from Parramatta) Charles Archdall born 1805 Waterford (Irl)married Matilda Adelaide Booth born 1810, Dublin, in 1835.They had 4 children born in Ireland and some in Australia.Barry Yelverton Archdall was one of these but died aged about 20 and is buried in the Pearce cemetary near Parraamatta.
It seems likely that MATILDA ADELAIDE was sister to Jane Booth or Boothe born 1811 who married Barry John Yelverton, 3rd Viscount Avonmore.Jane died after having 5 children, Sidney Eloisa Yelverton, Mary Augusta, ADELAIDE MATILDA, (Lt) Barry Charles, Hon. George Frederick William.Barry (3rd V) then married Cecilia O'Keefe who had another 7 children. The first 5 were girls and no 6 was Major William Charles Yelverton who became the 4th Viscount.Sons of the first marriage died in 1853 and 1860.Barry John died in 1870 by which time the older sons were dead so it seems William took the title then. Foster Goring was the son of Sir Charles Foster Goring(7th Battalion)and Bridget Dent.He married the Hon. Sidney (or Sydney) Eloisa Yelverton, daughter of Barry (3).The only child I have is Sir Harry Yelverton Goring (11th Battalion)born 1840.They lived in Wellington NZ.
The 4th Vsic. William Charles married Maria Theresa Longworth whom he apparently divorced with a big scandal involved, then Emily Marianne AshworthThey had four children, one of whom died infant and 1 daughter. The other two sons took the title.Capt Barry Nugent Yelverton (5th)and Algernon William Yelverton (6th) Viscount.Elsewhere I found records that William died in Biarritz, Switzerland as did Marianne also and 'had no children'.??I have a lot more 'stuff' scribbled on odd bits of paper and I will try and pull them all together for you if needed. One other mystery. On my husband's mother's side the original OZ ancestor (Smith)who came via Tasmania apparently, was married by a minister called James Yelverton Wilson in Portland Victoria. Our family name is Wilson!Wilson married Pearce, Pearce married Yelverton and so it goes round.I need to find the connections within all this out of sheer curiosity.
