I honestly haven't done a lot of original research on the later generations of the Yoakums but in looking back at my research from Bedford County,VA, I show Michael's wife as Ann Boyles.
Feb 8, 1762 as recorded in the Bedford Co, VA Marriage Bonds & Other Marriage Instruments Not Recorded."Marriage:Ann Boyles and Michael Yoakum, Alexr Boyles surety on bond 21/83"
HC Smith claims it was Jesse Yoakum who md. Ann Boyles but I didn't find any mention of that in Bedford records, so I'm going with Michael.Whoever Michael's wife was he had a fairly contentious relationship with her ending in a major multi-year lawsuit (1778-1784) brought by Michael's wife (unnamed in records.)See below.
As for Mary Downing, I show her as married to Michael's brother John Yoakum but no documentation (somebody else sent that to me.)All I have in way of documentation is this:
Nov 15, 1777: Will of John Downing of Russell Parrish [sic] names his daughter Mary Yoakum to whom he leaves 10 shillings. Will is witnessed by Michael Yoakum, and signed with his mark M." Bedford Co, VA Will Bk A1:266.John Downing was relatively wealthy, donating land for town of Bedford as the county seat. The will was proved 22 Dec 1777. Perhaps the confusion over which brother she married is due to fact that Michael witnessed John Downing's will.I've been told (but cannot verify) that anyone who benefits from being named in a will cannot be a witness which takes Michael out of contention for being Mary's husband.
Thing to do is look for land sales -- both in VA & KY-- which usually give the first name of the wife to see what they say for Michael and John (and Jesse).Hope this helps.

I also did not see any divorce papers. It would be great to find other land records or will for Michael in Botetourt Co or KY or a will which would give first name of a wife if any.
